VALE DR SAMBHU MUKHERJEE
Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—I wish to acknowledge the life, work and dedication of Rutherford GP Dr Sambhu Mukherjee, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 91. Dr Mukherjee founded Rutherford Medical Centre in 1972 and was a GP for more than 40 years before retiring in 2014. He and his wife Bani were married for 61 years. They were proud parents of two boys Suva and Suvendu, and loving grandparents to Sudeep. Dr Mukherjee was raised in a village near Kolkata India, and attended Kolkata Medical College where he trained as a GP and respiratory physician. Dr Mukherjee and Dr Sanjoy Chatterjee, who he met at medical school, came to Maitland and founded their practice in Telarah before moving to its current location at Rutherford. Many of Dr Mukherjee's patients were generational; he often treated grandparents, parents and children of the same family. These patients have expressed that Dr Mukherjee was a great doctor who would go out of his way to help, working day and night and on public holidays as well as offering home visits. VALE Dr Mukherjee.
