Rutherford Technology High School Rugby 7s
Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Congratulations to the Rutherford Technology High School Under 16s girls' rugby 7s team. The team recently won the school's first ever rugby union title, named Hunter champions at the HSSA tournament held at Speers Point. Rugby has not previously been a big sport at the school, but the team was brought together as a few girls were very keen to compete. Coach and Talented Sports Program Rugby League coordinator Luke Miller held two or three training sessions leading into the day which built their confidence. The team is made up of only 9 players so they only had 2 reserves for the games. They were undefeated on the day beating out Mount View, Singleton, Hunter River and Whitebridge High School teams. Chloe Boundy was named most valuable player for her outstanding effort in every game. Even more impressive is that Chloe has never played rugby union before, however she has been part of the rugby league TSP program since she was in year seven. As Hunter champions the girls will now go on to represent the Hunter at the NSW Combined High Schools carnival in Sydney this August. Well done, girls!
