MAX FERGUSON AND BRAYDEN LE BRETON
Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads) —This week 10‑year-old Max Ferguson from Gillieston Heights and Brayden Le Breton from Thornton are representing Australia in Futsal, playing in the Montesilvano Futsal Cup in Italy. Futsal began in Uraguay in the 1930's, an indoor version of Football that can be played on a basketball court, with international competitions have been played since the 1960's. The Montesilvano Futsal Cup is a showcase for the young talent who wants to finalise the development of their career at prestigious clubs both nationally and internationally, thanks to the presence of highly accredited observers and coaches in the world of futsal. Max's mother Katie has been posting updates as she receives them back here in Australia. She reported that the Maitland Magpie's junior scored a double in the team's 4-1 win over Marconi. Max and Brayden won selection for the Under 11's Boys Australian Futsal Association squad in January this year. Max's family put out the call and the Maitland community rallied behind him to raise the funds needed to get Max on the plane. Congratulations Max, Brayden and all the team and I wish them well for the rest of the tournament.
