Malcolm Green, Harry Palmer, and Gareth Turner

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Congratulations to three of our local Maitland martial arts competitors on their recent tournament success. Malcolm Green, Harry Palmer, and Gareth Turner each competed in the World So-Kyokushin Australian National Tournament on Sunday 19 May, at Minto Indoor Sport Centre. Kyokushin is a form of karate originating in Japan. It is a full‑contact style of stand-up fighting and is connected to a philosophy of self-improvement discipline, and hard training. The World So-Kyokushin Australian National Tournament is a competition held for kids aged as young as 6 all the way to adults. Malcolm, Harry and Gareth are all members of the Hunter Valley Karate club in Rosebrook. Malcolm Green who participated in the padded contact event at the tournament came third in the 15s event. Harry Palmer participated in the adult middleweight full contact event, won his match and was crowned the winner in that division. Gareth Turner participated in the adult's novice full contact match and finished second in that division. Each put in hours of training leading into the tournament. Congratulations on your results.
