Maitland Aquatic Centre

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Congratulations to the Maitland Aquatic Centre pool team who have taken out two awards at the recent 2024 Aquatic and Recreation Institute NSW Awards of Excellence. The team won the Environmental Sustainability Award and also the Accessibility Award at the event. This is the third year in a row that Maitland Aquatic Centre has taken out a top award. The Environmental Sustainability award comes in recognition that water consumption at Maitland Aquatic Centre has been reduced by 23,224 kL over the last four years, which is more than nine Olympic swimming pools. Greenhouse gas emissions at Maitland Aquatic Centre have also been reduced by 12.56 per cent over the last four years and electricity usage has been reduced by 25 per cent. The Maitland Aquatic Centre will also be running on 100 per cent renewable energy from January 1, 2025. Congratulations to Maitland City Council, Suellen Goyne and the Aquatic Centres team on this recognition.
