Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Congratulations to Lauren Parker, who recently received the Medal of the Order of Australia [OAM] in recognition of her outstanding service to sport as a gold medallist at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games. Lauren's journey from a devastating life-changing accident in 2017 to becoming a dual Paralympic champion is a testament to her resilience, dedication, and unwavering spirit. At the Paris Games, Lauren secured gold in both the women's wheelchair paratriathlon and the H1-4 cycling road race, etching her name in Australian sporting history. Her achievements have earned her numerous accolades, including Australia's flag bearer at the closing ceremony, the AIS Performance of the Year award, and NSW Champions of Sport's Athlete of the Year with a Disability. Now based in Louth Park, Lauren continues to inspire, with her sights set on new challenges—including rowing and even winter sports. Her determination and passion make her an incredible role model, proving that with perseverance, anything is possible. Thank you Lauren, Maitland and Australia are so immensely proud of you!
