Jade Bassett and the RTHS Women In STEM Program

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Jade Bassett is a beloved teacher at Rutherford Technology High School who is dedicated to inspiring young women into STEM careers. Jade established the school's Women in STEM Program, fostering curiosity, highlighting robotics, business modelling and enterprise skills in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Late last year Jade gathered talented, high achieving women who work in science, technology, engineering and maths together at Rutherford Technology High School for an event aimed at mentoring the next generation. The women representing engineering, civil construction, health, electronics, manufacturing, maritime, aerospace and academia fields and they shared with students their learnings, career pathways and experiences in a speed mentoring session. Jade describes the program as the catalyst for transforming aspiration into reality, empowering students not only to dream big but also to turn those dreams into action. Jade's journey from a student to an inspiring leader in STEM education is testimony to the impact and importance of dedicated STEM teachers and highlights the critical role of teachers in shaping the future of STEM.
