Hunter River Dragons

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Roads, and Minister for Regional Transport)—Congratulations to the Hunter River Dragons for their incredible achievements at the 2025 Australian National Dragon Boat Championships, held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith. Across six days of intense competition, the club team participated in everything from 200m sprints to the gruelling 2km turn races. The Hunter River Dragons showed what Maitland spirit looks like on the water: teamwork, determination, and a whole lot of heart. Nine paddlers were selected to represent New South Wales in the State Championships, a major honour and reflection of their commitment. Congratulations to Jerry Diamoy, Abby Longrigg, Harata Wilson, Mat Attenborough, Karen and Troy Montgomery, Jesse Diamoy, Brett Dolan, and Tony Nunn. NSW went on to win the Overall State Trophy, thanks in part to these local legends bringing home gold and silver! The club also held its own in the national club crew races, competing against Australia's best with unwavering energy, laughter and grit. To the Hunter River Dragons, thank you for flying the flag for our community. Your success on the national stage is something all of Maitland can be proud of. Well done!
