HARRISON NICHOLS
Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Congratulations to Hunter Valley Grammar School Year 11 student Harrison Nichols, whose team finished fourth in the PR3 four event at the World Rowing Championships in Serbia this month. Harrison was the youngest member of the Australian Rowing team at the World titles. With this fourth-place finish, Harrison and his teammates Susannah Lutze, Jessica Gallagher, Thomas Birtwhistle and veteran cox Teesaan Koo, booked their boat's spot in the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Harrison's focus for the next six months will be on securing his seat in the boat at the Games. Just 12 months ago, Harrison had reconstructive surgery to his left foot which had been severely damaged when run over by a lawn mower when he was a child. Harrison earned his place in the boat with an outstanding performance in the PR3 single sculls at the Australian Rowing Championships. At the World Championships, following a disappointing heat, Harrison and his team won their place into the final with an impressive sub‑seven‑minute time in the repechage round, a major team goal. Congratulations Harrison and I wish you well in your preparations for the Paris Paralympics.
