Derek Mitchell

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Congratulations to Derek Mitchell on his 40 years of service to the Kiwanis Club of East Maitland. Derek joined the club in 1984, and quickly took on the role of treasurer and has since served as secretary seven times and president three times. His dedication has been instrumental in shifting the club's focus from hands-on projects to fundraising for children's charities, including organising trivia nights, Bunnings barbecues, and monthly Maitland market collections. Derek's leadership and unwavering commitment were recognised with a life membership in 1997 and a Legion of Honor in 2014. His passion for service is shared by his son Ben and daughter-in-law Fiona, both of whom are active members of the Kiwanis Club. The club, which once was exclusively for men, now proudly includes members of all ages and genders, reflecting the inclusive spirit Derek has championed. We are grateful for Derek's decades of service and the impact he has made on the Kiwanis Club of East Maitland and our community. His legacy is one of dedication, service, and an enduring commitment to making a difference.
