Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland)—On Wednesday 10 November we celebrated International Pathology Day 2021. This Day provided a platform to highlight the critical role of pathologists in providing efficient, effective and well-informed healthcare. Pathologists and their broader teams joined others across the spectrum of health professions to form part of the Australian response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pathologist work to inform, research and deliver improvements in our approach to the pandemic and our testing regimes. Many of us may have had limited contact with pathology services prior to the pandemic. This shared global experience has sharply focused our attention on the overall importance of this work and those who undertake it. International Pathology Day promotes global solidarity regarding pathology practice through sharing reflections and insights on the challenges and successes in medical diagnostics. It promotes collaboration and encourages people to understand the success of other teams and to apply that knowledge locally. I thank all those members of the Maitland community who work within pathology and the many supporting teams. I hope that International Pathology Day provided an opportunity for these community members to recognise and celebrate their vast achievements during this pandemic.
