Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland)—Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War. Every year at 11 am on the 11th day of the 11th month, we join across the world to pause in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. We remember sacrifice, honour and the powerful love for families, friends and nation. So powerful was this love that our service men and women gave their own lives, their own health and their own safety in order to protect us. Regional and rural areas like Maitland have lost many beloved individuals on the battlefields in many wars. We lost the possible futures, the possible discoveries, the possible partners and possible parents. We lost future carers, future providers, future entrepreneurs, and the many worlds of possibilities that those young men and women would have realised. Whilst I was in Parliament to observe Remembrance Day this year, I thank the Maitland RSL for their moving service, where my representative laid a tribute on behalf of our community. I join with all citizens of Maitland to remember those who have served our nation, to commemorate their bravery and their sacrifices. Lest we forget.
