Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland)—A huge debt of gratitude must go to Luskintyre Landcare who recently put its bushfire recovery grant to good use. The conscientious volunteers planted more than 16,000 trees and shrubs to help ease the impact of drought, fire, flood and urbanisation on native species. The Landcare‑led Bushfire Recovery Grants, funded by the federal government, saw $14 million go to regions impacted by the black summer bushfires on 2019 and 2020. The Luskintyre Landcare community worked hard to help restore habitats and vital wildlife corridors. They planted in excess of 60 different species local to the Maitland area alone. Only a few months ago, the crew spent over 300 hours planting trees and shrubs on and around nine farms to assist threatened birds like the critically-endangered Regent Honeyeater. Well done to president John Schultz and his diligent team for their fantastic efforts to enhance our local environment.
