Chief Inspector Dan Skelly

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—I wish to formally acknowledge and celebrate the life and service of Chief Inspector Daniel Robert Skelly, who passed away on 13 January 2025 at the age of 61 after a courageous five-year battle with leukaemia. Chief Inspector Skelly dedicated nearly three decades to the NSW Police Force, serving communities across the state with unwavering commitment. He began his distinguished career in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, then moved to Dubbo. In 2020, he returned to the Hunter region, assuming the role of officer-in-charge Raymond Terrace sector within the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District. Throughout his tenure, Chief Inspector Skelly was renowned for his leadership, integrity, and dedication to public safety. His colleagues and the communities he served held him in high esteem, reflecting the profound impact of his service. On 23 January 2025, hundreds of emergency service personnel gathered at Newcastle's Sacred Heart Cathedral to honour Chief Inspector Skelly's life and legacy. On behalf of the Maitland community and the broader Hunter region, I extend our deepest condolences to Chief Inspector Skelly's family, friends, and colleagues. We honour his remarkable contributions to law enforcement and his unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our communities.
